Over the past months, the SIP team had the chance to meet virtually with MEPs such as MEP Susana Solís Pérez (RE, Spain), MEP Sirpa Pietikäinen (EPP, Finland), MEP Alfred Sant (S&D, Malta), MEP Dolors Montserrat (EPP, Spain), MEP de la Pisa Carrión (ECR, Spain), as well as with the office of MEP MEP Roberta Metsola (EPP, Malta) and MEP Irena Joveva (RE, Slovenia).
In some of these meetings, we were joined by our national colleagues from SIP Finland and SIP Spain, which have as patient representatives the PAE Vice-President Liisa Jutila (SIP Finland) and PAE Board member Soledad Garcia Penalta (SIP Spain).
The SIP team used these opportunities to speak about our policy priorities for 2020-2021, such as:
- Cancer pain policies (feeding into the EU Commission “Beating Cancer Plan” discussions and ensuring that the topic of pain is included)
- Employment and social integration of pain patients (ensuring that the reintegration of workers with chronic pain is considered a European priority)
- Pain and digital medicine (looking at the possibilities for recording and measuring pain, better self-management approaches, the spreading of expertise and care networks to remote areas and other related subjects)
The SIP team also had the chance to share the SIP Cancer Pain Position Paper.
