When you are in so much pain that the usual painkillers are not enough, you and your doctor should now consider whether an opioid might relieve your pain.

However, these medications do not help every cause of pain. Opioids are neither a cure-all nor the devil’s stuff. When used properly, an opioid can help you relieve some of your pain and return to an active life.
