Member News – The Week of the Pain – The Nederlands
September 26 – October 1, 2016
Pain Alliance Europe and its Dutch members are getting involved and supporting the “WEEK OF THE PAIN” in The Netherlands.
During this week they will organise site events and will be participating in the two-day Congress on 28 and 29 September 2016 at the EYE filminstituut, IJpromenade 1, Amsterdam.
The first day will address mainly the healthcare professionals: their actual knowledge and another view on chronic pain. The second day will be dedicated to the pain patients themselves: practical ways of dealing with chronic pain.
The Dutch Minister of Health, Edith Visser, will take part in the event. An important place in the congress is given to the announcement and the signing of a covenant by the partners of this action, united on a platform (which will include the Ministry of Health) in order to find better solutions for chronic pain patients. This action aims to demonstrate that by working together and keeping the focus on the greater good, we can achieve a lot more than when fighting alone.
The congress’ participants will assist at the première of the film: ”Om gek van te worden” (How to become crazy) – a movie that shows the long way chronic pain patients have to go in order to be diagnosed, to get proper treatment, to find someone who wants to believe them and also to build up a new life. The film follows the life of six different chronic pain patients: a 9-year old boy with chronic foot pain, a young mother raising a child with a complex wide spread pain syndrome, a lady with a crooked spinal cord and lung problems, a lady with rheumatic pains and lung cancer, a lady with fibromyalgia who started her own company and a man with post-operative pain after a hip replacement.
